“Harm,” Mac’s somewhat stressed tone broke into his thoughts.

He looked up to see a very tensely coiled Lt. Colonel Sarah Mackenzie standing in his doorway. Her arms were crossed almost defensively; there was an expression on her face he could only describe as wary thoughtfulness. Maybe that was good, at least it wasn’t outright anger, but he still wondered what he had done now.

“Mac” he responded uncertainly. “Uh hi, what can I do for you?” He asked as he rose cautiously to his feet.

She continued to stare at him for a long moment with that same expression, which gave him time to reflect on the fact that she had been looking at him like that all morning. He had caught her several times during the morning briefing but every time he challenged her with his eyes her gaze slid away. A few moments later, though, the look would be back again. He was puzzled, but decided she would let him know what was on her mind in her own good time.

Apparently, that time had come, but it made the look no less discomfiting.

“Come with me sailor,” she almost ordered and spun on her heel marching off.

Not much to do but follow, so he shrugged to no one in particular and fell in behind her. Not that he minded walking behind her. After all, it gave him a vantage point he appreciated; but he wouldn’t risk possible personal injury by revealing those thoughts to her.

She reached her office and stepped aside indicating he should precede her. After glancing casually around the room to see if the few people left in OPs were paying attention, she followed him through the door, turned, and locked it. Harm noticed at that point the blinds were already drawn.

‘Dear god’ he thought to himself ‘whatever I did this time must have been way over the top’.

Finally, she turned slowly, and raised her eyes to him. He felt himself beginning to tumble helplessly into the rich brown pools.

What exactly was he seeing? His hands began to sweat and the hair was standing up on his neck. He’d never seen her act this way.

“Mac…” he started.

She held up a hand to silence him and cocked her head to study him further. This was getting ridiculous. She was his partner and a woman, matter of fact a very desirable woman. He certainly had never allowed either to make him quite this uncomfortable before. Surely, he could handle whichever she chose to be in this moment. It was the suspense that was killing him.

He took another breath to speak, but her look stopped him.

“Harm,” there was a multitude of feelings in her voice. It was both sultry and curious, but with an underlying element of fear and uncertainty that he knew she reserved for only the most deadly serious moments.

His heart sank wondering what she was going to say. He was so wound up now he was completely unprepared for what came next.

“I heard a song this morning, Harm.” Her eyes glanced away quickly then returned just as quickly and the look he had described to himself as thoughtful wariness was back.

“Okaaay” he responded not sure just where this was going. “And…?”

“It was on an oldies station, on the way to work.” She explained.

Well that made everything as clear as mud. “Mac” he said again in utter confusion. She took a step closer.

“Harm, kiss me.”

“What?” he was stunned. Not unwilling, mind you just stunned.

“Kiss me. Kiss me just exactly the way you want to.” She looked up into his eyes betraying a frightened determination.

It took half a second but he recovered with a swiftness he usually reserved for the cockpit.

He knew that his eyes were revealing things he had tried so valiantly to keep hidden.

“Any way I want to?” he asked huskily. Their eyes were locked, and the world was dropping away.

“Yes” she answered in a throaty whisper.

“Right now? Here?” He took a step.

She nodded.

“You won’t push me away?” His voice deepened. He took another step. He was in her personal space now; their body heat was blending. The shockwaves of two extremely strong personalities were reacting each to the other.

“No” It was all but inaudible, so she shook her head, never breaking eye contact.

His hands went to her shoulders, as the last half step was taken. Their eyes remained locked until the last possible moment, before his lips touched hers. A light brush that made her shiver, then slightly more pressure as his mouth caressed hers, pouring out every longing he had ever felt. At some point, his arms slid around her and pulled her closer. His lips worked gently to separate hers, and the tip of his tongue brushed the barely open seam. In that instant control broke, and long held desire took over. She melted against him even as he pulled her closer, pressing her into him with his large hands. His tongue claimed the territory of her mouth, and met a formidable adversary as hers answered him stroke for stroke. It wasn’t until they found themselves reaching for the others uniform buttons, that they broke apart and reclaimed reality.

Still locked in a bonding embrace, she met his gaze and smiled the most beautiful smile he’d ever seen.

“I guess that answers that” her voice was positively silky.

He just smiled back “I guess it does.” He answered.

“Harm about the song…” she started.

“It’s In His Kiss” he finished cocking an eyebrow. “I heard it too.” He said pulling her to him for another session in sorting this ever-complicated subject.

They both heard the words echo through their minds….’if you want to know, if he loves you so, it’s in his kiss’.

Only the beginning, I think.

End
